Federal (all US states)
The Nurse Staffing Standards for Hospital Patient Safety and Quality Care Act would set minimum ratios nationwide. Introduced in both chambers in May 2025; tracking sites give it essentially no chance of passing this Congress.
National (Canada, CFNU)
The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions launched the first National Council on Nurse-Patient Ratios in October 2025, bringing government, employers, academics, and unions to one table.
